The current unthawing North American world got the exciting news last week that Frozen
will be coming back to the big screen for a follow up adventure
. Being the eternal optimists we are at TheHollywoodMag
, we’re holding out hope that it’s gonna be good. Maybe even just as good as some of these superior sequels!
Toy Story 2
If Pixar’s brilliant second instalment in the Toy Story
franchise is any indication of what Frozen 2
might be like then we’ve got nothing to worry about. The film has 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made it to #25 of their “Top 100 Movies of All Time” list, just five rungs up from the third film in the series.
Star Wars episode V: Empire Strikes Back
After Star Wars: A New Hope
light sabered its 1977 audiences with its then-impressive effects and captivating story, the sequel successfully enthralled them even more. Pay to see these movies forever you will (even after Jar Jar Binks entered your reality). Let’s hope Disney and Lucasfilm get it right with their upcoming features.
The Dark Knight
The second in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, The Dark Night
was taken to new heights of cinematic glory with the late Heath Ledger’s adaptation of the Joker. He even beat out Jack Nicholson’s Joker, which while brilliantly creepy, has to bow down.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
What’s scarier than a leathered clad Arnold Schwarzenegger with a really big gun? Um, oh yes, a liquid robot from the future whose hands can turn in giant knives.
Back To The Future 2
Marty McFly hoover-boarded back onto our screens in a blaze of glory with the second of this series trio. Back To The Future 2
actually parks the Delorean in our current year and I have only one thing to say about that…where are the food hydrators this fictional movie about a flying time travel car promised us? Must we microwave our dinners forever
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Technically a prequel, as it’s set a year before the events in Raiders of the Lost Ark
, Temple of Doom
did not disappoint with its non-stop action and actual death-defying roller coaster rides. Let us remember the story of Indiana Jones in this light instead of the defilement that was The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Star Trek: First Contact
“Assimilate this!” Star Trek: First Contact
might be one of many in a long line of satisfying sequels and reboots, but it hands down has one of the greatest villains in sci-fi history, the Borg (imagine a robot zombie that can read your thoughts, yup).
Bill & Ted Bogus Journey
While not a critic’s favourite, this movie takes ridiculous to new levels with “bogus robots” and a game of twister with the grim reaper and we must respect that.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
The third instalment in the National Lampoon Vacation
series, Christmas Vacation
has become an annual standard for many homes. Best line: “If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn’t be more surprised than I am now.”
