Last week Madonna and her daughter Lourdes Leon were spotted leaving a Met Gala after party. The 56-year-old and her 18-year-old daughter looked fierce in coordinating black outfits, but headlines the next day read “Like Mother, Like Daughter (Sadly Enough)”
and “Lourdes Leon Shows Nipple in Sheer Shirt Out With Madonna.”
Yes, a nipple was the topic of multiple stories. One nipple. Why, you ask? Because it was a female nipple and we have been conditioned to hide them.
Free The Nipple
is an equality movement that hopes to empower women across the world by raising awareness about the inequality between men and women. For example in most US states it is illegal to be topless, and therefore, to breastfeed. Women faces fines, and even jail time, all because of their nipples. Celebrity supporters of #FreeTheNipple include Cara Delevingne, Miley Cyrus, and Lena Dunham.
Of course the irony is that women’s hidden nipples actually serve a purpose (they dispense the elixir of life) while men’s free nipples do nothing except add balance to the chest.
So yeah, we don’t care about Lourdes’ nip-slip, or anyone else’s for that matter.
