George Lucas may know how to properly implode a Death Star, but it’s Disney that knows how implode our brains in anticipation. It seems every week there’s some new Star Wars-related mania and this week has been no different – not that we’re complaining of course.
The latest to come out of the Walt Disney distribution powerhouse is a new teaser trailer, which features the character Finn, (John Boyega), armed with a blue lightsaber to take on Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and is super cool (and super evil) crossguard lightsaber.
The short clip, which also debuts Instagram’s new landscape and portrait orientation for photos and videos, is the follow up to an earlier teaser for the film, released back in November of 2014 (yes, we’ve already been waiting that long).
The force-filled excitement doesn’t end there. Also hyped this week was the announcement of the “first ever global live toy unboxing event”. Star Wars: The Force Awakens products will officially be for sale at select retailers around the world on Friday, September 4th – may the forth be with you if you’re brave enough to join those shoppers.
As explained in the Force Friday preview below, “the heroes and the villains, the creatures, the spaceships, the whole assortment is going to be very exciting.”
In the lead up to this retail mayhem the Star Wars YouTube channel will host a live streaming “toy unboxing” event, starting in Sydney Australia at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 3rd (Wednesday, September 2nd, 5:45 EDT) and ending off in San Francisco at Lucasfilm headquarters at 8 a.m. (11 a.m. EDT) with 15 locations in between.
As the official Star Wars website explains, “Unboxing videos have captivated millions of Internet viewers and continue to grow in popularity – 18 of the top 100 most viewed YouTube Channels worldwide are dedicated to toys and toy unboxings.” What the?
Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens toy unboxing videos will feature “online personalities sharing the excitement” of tearing into the hotly anticipated toys. Star Wars commentators Anthony Carboni and Andi Gutierrez will host the event from the YouTube Space in Los Angeles.
