Miley Cyrus, who will be hosting the upcoming VMA Awards, had a fun stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday when she went undercover as an Australian reporter who asked randoms in LA what they thought about, well, her.
The reviews were mixed ranging from folks admitting they prefer TaySwift but saw nothing wrong with Miley to others who aren’t fond of the Cyrus family as a whole. Cyrus took the honesty like a champ and handled the whole thing well as she stayed in character (for the most part).
Aside from her undercover gig, the ‘We Can’t Stop’ singer went onto the show to talk about the upcoming awards show she’ll be hosting, what her father thinks of her nudist tendencies and why she’s more comfortable socializing with less clothing.
“He’d probably maybe rather I didn’t have my tits out the whole time,” Cyrus explained to Kimmel, “but he’d rather me have my tits out and be a good person, than have my shirt on and be a bitch. I see a lot of people with their clothes on, and they’re kind of assholes.”
The multi-talented Cyrus has faced a ton of judgement from the media in the past. When she notes, “And I don’t know if it’s the clothes that turn them into assholes. When you’ve got your tits out people are already kind of judging you — I feel better this way.”
On some level, this is a coping mechanism she’s come up with to deal with all the judgement. It’s one of those superficial, surface judgements that’s based on slut-shaming rather than something deeper (or about who she actually is). The world is cruel and Cyrus has learned that. Who can blame her after all the criticism she’s received and will continue to face.
But the 22-year-old is an actual unicorn. She’s just doing her thing and we can’t help but support her as she promotes feminism in the most colourful way possible.
