Hilary Duff’s sex life is making headlines again. This time reports are saying she may have lost her virginity at age 16 to then-boyfriend, Joel Madden, who is nine years her senior.
Duff opened up about her past relationship in a recent interview with Cosmo magazine.
“I’ve enjoyed myself. I think everyone should have something where you know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for but you just have a wicked good time. That was freeing for me and a bit of an awakening. It’s fun to have a secret,” the 27-year-old said.
“I had a 26-year-old boyfriend, so everyone can make their own assumptions about what I was doing.”
Whether or not they had sex is kind of irrelevant at this point. What I want to know is why so many young stars date much older men.
In the regular world a 16-year-old dating a 25-year-old is frowned upon, right? What does a man with a real job and/or a mortgage see in a high school girl?
I’ve heard the argument that ‘showbiz-16’ somehow differs than ‘regular-16,’ but is it really? No matter how much life experience you have at 16, you still don’t have the wisdom and emotional intelligence that comes with age.
At 16 you think having an older boyfriend is cool and rebellious — but later, in hindsight, you may see the situation differently. Different life stages can make a world of a difference.
Of course Kylie Jenner and Tyga come to mind. Jenner reportedly started dating 25-year-old rapper Tyga at just 16, and they remain unapologetic about their relationship.
This is what young females are looking up to these days. Young women with older men, who if caught could face statutory rape charges.
I’m not blaming the girls. We’ve all been there – young and stupid. I blame the men and the parents.
