Black Eyed Peas throwback to old-school sound with the song ‘Yesterday’, plus some more of the most dramatic musical shifts

Black Eyed Peas - feature In celebration of their 20th anniversary The Black Eyed Peas have surprised fans old and new (leaning more on the old) with a new video for their song, ‘Yesterday’. The song and video pays homage to the hip-hop legends that inspired them and to the band’s own origins – think less ‘My Humps’ and more ‘Joints & Jam’. Absent on the tune and from the video is Fergie, who didn’t join the group until 2002, though she bares no resentment. The video employs a simple concept – with the original three members, Will.i.am, Taboo and Apl.de.Ap, browsing through LPs and CDs in a record shop and gradually incorporating samples and sounds from hip-hop greats like A Tribe Called Quest, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Public Enemy, and more. Revel in the nostalgia for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anJYoItYeyM After all the reminiscing Will.i.am assures us that BEP will continue to in their evolution, repeating the line “I’m taking you to the future”. The BEP aren’t the only ones to get a face-lift or two over the years, here a few more musical acts that have dramatically changed their sound throughout their careers.
